Contemporary Showcase is an annual music festival celebrating new musical work of Contemporary Canadian Composers. For the purposes of this festival, contemporary implies music composed since 2000 and written using 21st century compositional techniques.

1. Save the Dates!

September 1st, 2022 - Online Registration Opens
September 30th, 2022 - Submission Deadline
October 17th, 2022 - Registration Deadline
November 17th-19th, 2022 - Festival
November 26th, 2022 - CSC Gala

2. Choose Class(es) and Selection(s)

All selections must be either:
  • Chosen from the 2022 Syllabus
  • Be approved by the CSC Board.

3. New Music Submission(s)

When a performer would like to enter with a piece that is not in the syllabus, please make a New Music Submission for approval by the deadline on September 30.
 
A partial copy is ok if it provides a sufficient sample of the music.
 
Decisions regarding special requests are sent by email to the teacher.
 
Please check the syllabus carefully before submitting your special request. If you have received approval in the past, there is no need to seek approval each year for the same piece.

4. Registration

All entries must be submitted through our online registration form by the deadline:

Monday, October 17th, 2022, 11:59pm

Registrations must be received by the deadline in order to be processed and scheduled. Adhering to the deadlines helps us to respect the time and efforts of our administrator and volunteers. 

5. Sections - Ability Levels

Sections refer to three general ability levels: junior, intermediate and advanced. Each instrument category treats these levels differently. Please refer to the syllabus of the instrument you will be registering. 

ONE of the TWO selections from a class that performer is registered for may be chosen  from the next class level.  

​The Student Composition Class and Alberta Composers Class are both open to ALL ability levels.

6. Entry Fees are determined by Class Level

GENERAL ENTRY FEES
$35 - Junior Level
$40 - Intermediate Level
$45 - Advanced Level

VOCAL ENTRY FEES
$35 - Junior Level

$40 - Intermediate Level
$45 - Advanced Level
$25 - Staged Works One Selection (*Regular Class Level Fee for 2 selections.)

COMPOSITION ENTRY FEES
$35 - Student Composition Class
$30 - Alberta Composers Class

Entry Fees are not refundable under any circumstances.

7. Scheduling

Scheduling requests are NOT PERMITTED.

This applies to performers, parents, teachers, and accompanists.

8. Accompanists

Where required, performers are responsible for providing their own accompanists.

10. Copyright

Please refer to Copyright Act to determine the Fair Use of the music. 

Please be prepared to provide an original copy of the music to the event for the adjudicator.

11. Broadcasting & Recording

Performances during the CSC festival and at the CSC Gala may be recording for possible future broadcast, without liability and without remuneration to the performer.

A performer must request in advance that they prefer their performance not be recorded.

12. Non-Competitive

Contemporary Showcase is a non-competitive festival.

No marks are awarded, however performers will receive written and verbal adjudications from our nation's best educators. 

 

13. Scholarships

At the discretion of the adjudicator, scholarships will be presented to outstanding performances at the CSC Gala Concert.
